Mamadou Mory Traoré was born in Kolokani, Mali. From the age of 10, he began learning the art of traditional bogolan weaving on calabash and its ideographic symbols from his mother. He is the heir of Soun Traoré, a great keeper of the knowledge of the Traoré-Zembla family. In the Kolokani compound, the entire Traoré-Zembla family has been creating prestigious fabrics of Malian textile culture for centuries. Mamadou is not only a great bogolan master who has been creating for 36 years, he is a scholar who lives and breathes the art of traditional bogolan.
